Here’s what is looking good to me this week…
NEW TRAILER OF THE WEEK
Nothing really grabbed my attention this week so instead, I’ll just point you to my earlier post this week about a giveaway that also highlights a bunch of my favorites so far this year.
SONG OF THE WEEK
I’m so happy because my friend made me an excellent new playlist which had these gems on it:
STREAMING PREVIEW
Here’s what looks good on TV this week. Click the title to watch the trailer…
SUN, JUL 13
-Live Aid Documentary (CNN). So many memories. This 4 part docuseries takes us back to 1985 (please and thank you) for one of the biggest benefit concerts ever.
-The Institute (MGM+). OK, I know no one has this streaming channel but this new series based on a Stephen King novel looks good. Plus it stars Mary-Louise Parker who is one of my favorites. It’s about a teen genius who gets kidnapped.
WED, JUL 16
-The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 (Net). Based on the YA novel Jenny Han, this will wrap up the series.
THU, JUL 17
-Strange New Worlds Season 3 (Paramount+). I thought the first season of this new Star Trek series was ok but season 2 was GREAT, one of my favorites of the year. I’m really looking forward to its return.
-Untamed (Netflix). Eric Bana stars in this 6-part new series as an agent working in Yosemite who is investigating a brutal death.
BOOK PREVIEW - AUG 12 RELEASES (I preview a month ahead so you can get library holds in early!)
-We Are All Guilty Here by Karin Slaughter. Maybe you’re like me and have wanted to give this thriller author a try but didn’t know where to start, here’s the first one in a new series! Here’s the description, “Welcome to North Falls—a small town where everyone knows everyone. Or so they think. Until the night of the fireworks. When two teenage girls vanish, and the town ignites.”
-The Society of Unknowable Objects by Gareth Brown. I wasn’t a huge fan of his prior fantasy novel, The Book of Doors (I wanted more doors), but this description sounds interesting, “The world of unknowable objects - magical items that most people have no idea possess powers - has been quiet for decades . . .But three current members of a secret society have remained watchful, meeting every six months in the basement of a bookshop in London. They are pledged to protect their archive of magical items hidden away, safe from the outside world - and keep the world safe from them.”
-Too Old for This by Samantha Downing. I’m hoping this thriller brings the humor. Here’s the description, “A retired serial killer’s quiet life is upended by an unexpected visitor. To protect her secret, there’s only one option left—what’s another murder?”
I have read a lot if Karin Slaughter and she’s so good! A little dark and violent but her writing is witty and her characters are nuanced. Glad to see her start a new series.
I didn’t know Strange New Worlds season 3 was coming out. Exciting!!
